Django van der Heijden

Django is a versatile developer with experience across multiple technologies, including web development, Swift, C++, and Omnis. He works on both web and iOS front ends for an in-house ERP system and has developed several open-source tools for the Omnis community.

In addition, he is building an open-source, browser-based 3D CAD viewer in C++, designed for integration within an Omnis application. Through the development of the GitTools library, Django has built strong expertise in applying Git effectively within Omnis environments.

Getting Gitty with Omnis

Smarter Version Control with AI

Git is the most widely used version control system among developers. At Van Beek, Django has made Git the standard for version control within Omnis.

In this session, you will learn how to effectively use Git in combination with Omnis, including:

  • Modernizing your development workflow with Git and migrating from traditional VCS
  • Exporting and importing Omnis libraries as JSON
  • Setting up and collaborating through repositories
  • Avoiding and resolving merge conflicts
  • Integrating with continuous integration and deployment tools
  • Using AI to automatically review your changes

You will also be introduced to GitTools, an open-source library developed by Django to make working with Git in Omnis faster, easier, and more reliable. The session will highlight the latest improvements and new features added this year. Additionally, Django will demonstrate how to use (local) AI to automatically review your commits for any errors and/or code smells you may have missed, completely in the background. You will leave with the knowledge and tools needed to start applying this immediately after Euromnis.

Fast Deployment of Your Omnis Libraries

Using a new open source library deployment tool

Frequent and efficient deployment should not require reinstalling your entire application and Omnis runtime each time. With the open-source deployment tool developed by Django at Van Beek, this process becomes significantly faster and more flexible.

In this session, you will learn how to:

  • Upload files to a server and apply deduplication to only store changed files
  • Manage release groups
  • Maintain separate releases for different Omnis versions
  • Download only changed files in a single update
  • Automatically restart your application when needed for critical updates

Django will demonstrate how to use the tool, how to get started, and how you can adapt it to your own needs, as it is fully open source.

Format

You’ll sign up for the session you want to attend on a first-come, first-served basis. Up to 6 participants may attend a session, if full, you can sign up for the same topic at a different time. During the session, the speaker will guide the audience through the main topic but you will be able to ask him/her to deviate and cover related areas. Sometimes participants offer new ideas and solutions to a problem.

Check the

Speakers

Pursue any question or area not directly related to the core topic. Every speaker hosts at least 4 sessions which means there are about 11 to 12 simultaneous sessions running all the time with an average of 5 or 6 participants
